Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of Tahajud prayer therapy, which, although a recommended (sunnah) practice, is compulsory at Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tahfidz Al-Qur’an Al-Hidayah Wonopringgo, and serves as a means of developing students’ time discipline. The research originates from issues concerning the implementation of Tahajud prayer therapy in shaping time discipline among students, including their frequent difficulty waking up for Tahajud due to the habit of staying up late, fatigue resulting from demanding daily activities, and insufficient supervision despite the obligation to perform it. The research problems addressed in this study are: (1) How is the implementation of Tahajud prayer therapy conducted? and (2) How is time discipline demonstrated by the students of Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tahfidz Al-Qur’an Al-Hidayah Wonopringgo? The purpose of this study is to understand both the implementation process and the level of time discipline among the students at the institution. This study employs a qualitative approach using field research. The data collection methods consist of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis model used is Miles and Huberman’s analytical framework, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study show that the implementation of Tahajud prayer therapy in shaping students’ time discipline at Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tahfidz Al-Qur’an Al-Hidayah involves three stages: preparation and routine implementation at 03:30 a.m. in congregation with board members serving as role models; habituation through daily routines, guidance, and religious reminders (tausiyah) to foster spiritual motivation; and supervision through a system of ta'zir (disciplinary sanctions) and the “Outstanding Student” award, although supervision remains less than optimal. This therapy is effective in developing students’ time discipline through habituation, role modeling, and direct supervision. However, challenges persist, such as irregular sleep patterns and inadequate supervision, indicating the need for strong commitment and consistency from the boarding school leadership.
