Abstract

The role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in developing the Indonesian economy is crucial. One alternative that Islamic boarding schools can contribute to addressing Indonesia's economic challenges is by developing cadres and a generation of human resources, namely Islamic boarding school students (santri), who are skilled in various fields. The economic independence of Islamic boarding schools has been supported through programs from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, such as KMA No. 749 of 2021, which provides business capital assistance in the form of an incubation program. Business incubation programs play a crucial role as a strategy for empowering Islamic boarding school economies and fostering students' entrepreneurial spirit. The program's outputs are intended to achieve economic independence. This study aims to analyze the management of the Islamic boarding school's independent business incubation program, identify challenges encountered in its implementation, and evaluate the program's role in fostering students' entrepreneurial spirit at the Majelis Taklim (Islamic Study Group) of the Hidayatul Mubtadi-Ien Islamic Boarding School (MPPHM) in Pekalongan. The type of research is a field study research with qualitative methods, the data sources used are primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation and documentation. Informants in this study are Islamic Boarding School Caretakers, Islamic Boarding School Village Heads, Business Supervisors, Business Managers and Students. Data validity uses source triangulation methods, method triangulation and discussions with colleagues. Data analysis techniques used are data display, data condensation and data verification. The research results show that the business incubation program has a positive impact on enhancing the entrepreneurial spirit of students, as well as evaluating the output in fostering the independence of Islamic boarding schools and the work ethic of students at MPPHM Pekalongan. However, various obstacles remain in its management, particularly related to limited capital, minimal ongoing training, and a lack of strengthening business networks. The implementation of an incubation model that includes pre-incubation, core incubation, and post-incubation stages has proven effective in encouraging the economic independence of Islamic boarding schools and shaping the work ethic of students. Optimizing the role of Islamic boarding schools and the Ministry of Religious Affairs is needed through increased mentoring, access to capital, and strengthening business networks so that the business incubation program can run more effectively and sustainably.
