Abstract

This study aims to analyze the welfare of Shopee's warehouse workers at the Pekalongan Distribution Center (DC) from an economic, social, and Islamic economic perspective. This research is motivated by the rapid growth of the e-commerce industry in Indonesia, which has driven an increasing demand for labor in the logistics and expedition sectors. Furthermore, warehouse workers often face various employment issues, such as daily work, income uncertainty, high work pressure, heavy physical workloads, and minimal social security and employment protection. These conditions are crucial to examine from an Islamic economic perspective, which emphasizes the principles of justice, balance, responsibility, and worker welfare. This study employed a qualitative research method with field research. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation of Shopee's warehouse workers at the Pekalongan DC, selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the income of Shopee DC Pekalongan expedition warehouse workers is generally sufficient to meet basic daily needs, such as food and transportation. Social relations among workers are also well-established through mutual assistance, solidarity, and harmonious communication within the workplace. However, the daily worker system results in unstable incomes and inadequate capacity to optimally meet long-term needs, such as saving and improving one's standard of living. From a sharia economic perspective, worker welfare has not been fully met due to the persistent imbalance between workload and job security, limited social security, and relatively high work pressure. Nevertheless, the values of responsibility, cooperation, and solidarity among workers reflect some of the principles of welfare in Islam.
