Abstract

Muawannah, Rizqoh 2026. Implementation of Islam-Based Hypnotherapy to Overcome Anxiety About Losing a Loved One (Thanatophobia) at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy Pekalongan. Thesis, Department of Sufism and Psychotherapy, Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Dakwah. K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid State Islamic University, Pekalongan. Advisor: Annisa Mutohharoh, M.Psi Keywords: Islam-Based Hypnotherapy, Anxiety, Thanatophobia This study was driven by the presence of a client at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy Pekalongan who had anxiety about losing a loved one since her husband was diagnosed with kidney disease. This study aims to examine the implementation of Islam-based hypnotherapy to address the fear of losing a loved one (thanatophobia) at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy Pekalongan, as well as the client’s level of anxiety regarding the loss of a loved one (thanatophobia) before and after receiving Islam-based hypnotherapy at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy Pekalongan. This study utilized qualitative methods, specifically field research, employing a narrative study approach. The scientific approaches used were psychology and Sufism. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of one therapist and one client at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy in Pekalongan. The results indicate that the implementation of Islam-based hypnotherapy to address anxiety related to the loss of a loved one (thanatophobia) at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy Pekalongan is conducted through the following stages: pre-induction, a suggestibility test, induction using breathing dzikir and progressive relaxation techniques, deepening with relaxation music and guided imagery, a deep-level test, suggestions incorporating Islamic values (praying, mahabbah, forgiveness, ikhlas, and tawakkal), and termination with the recitation of Al-Fatihah as a closing prayer. The client’s anxiety regarding the loss of a loved one (thanatophobia) prior to Islam-based hypnotherapy was characterized by emotional symptoms (restlessness and fear), cognitive symptoms (negative assumptions about loss), experiential factors (the loss of her father during adolescence), developmental (the loss of a father affecting early adulthood), sociocultural (fear of accompanying her husband to his dialysis appointments), and motivational (decreased work motivation). The conclusion of this study is that Islam-based hypnotherapy at Omah Rere Hypnotherapy Pekalongan is implemented through six stages, with Islamic values deeply embedded in the suggestion stage, including exploring the root causes of the problem, releasing emotional bonds, mahabbah forgiveness, sincere acceptance, and tawakkal. The client experienced positive changes in all six symptom aspects after two sessions of Islam-based hypnotherapy, including a significant reduction in the recurrence of tremors, cold sweats, and GERD.
