Abstract

Beginning counting ability in children aged 4-5 years is a mathematical concept that needs to be given and introduced to children gradually according to the level of mastery of children in the form of numbers, causal patterns, geometry, and problem solving. This study was conducted with the aim of improving the ability to count the beginnings through loose parts media in children aged 4-5 years at Kenanga Karanganyar Kindergarten, Tirto District. The type of research used is classroom action research conducted collaboratively between researchers and classroom teachers. This research consists of two cycles and each cycle is carried out three times a meeting. The subjects of this study were 13 children aged 4-5 years at Kenanga Karanganyar Kindergarten, Tirto District, consisting of 7 boys and 6 girls. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The instrument used was an observation sheet (check list). Data analysis techniques were carried out descriptively qualitative and quantitative. The success indicator of this study is if the percentage calculation shows 75% of children have increased in recognizing the number symbols. The results showed that learning with loose parts media can improve the ability to count the beginning in children aged 4-5 years at Kenanga Karanganyar Kindergarten, Tirto District with the percentage of categories in the Pre-Cycle obtained results in the low category 30.77% and less 69.9%. In Cycle I, the results were obtained in the Less category 53.84%, Moderately High category 46.16%. In Cycle II, the results were obtained in the Moderately High category 23.08%, High category 76.92%. Therefore, there was an increase in Cycle I of 41.97% and an increase in Cycle II of 31.10%. In Cycle II with the results of a fairly high category of 23.08%, a high category of 76.92% with an average score of 51, and included in the High category, it shows that the increase in early counting in children aged 4-5 years at Kenanga Karanganyar Kindergarten, Tirto District has reached the completion of the indicators set by researchers with achievements exceeding 75%
