Abstract

This study aims to explore the learning experiences of EFL students when reading multimodal texts. This study employed a qualitative method with a narrative inquiry approach to examine how students interpreted, respond to, and made sense of the combination of linguistic and visual elements found in multimodal texts. Data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured narrative interviews with students who actively interacted with multimodal texts in English language learning. This approach allowed researcher to gain an in-depth understanding of students' reading processes, including how multimodality supported or challenged their comprehension. In addition, this study focuses on students' personal experiences to reveal their engagement, and meanings they constructed during reading. The research findings are expected to provide valuable insights for teachers and curriculum developers in designing multimodal-based reading learning that is more relevant, and meaningful for EFL students.
